FootballJose Mourinho Bizarrely Congratulates Napoli for Winning Title Halfway Through Serie a Season
- Jose Mourinho has bizarrely congratulated Napoli for winning the Scudetto despite only being halfway through the Serie A season
- Roma come up against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday, January 9
- Ahead of the game, Mourinho, who recently turned 60, revolved around the Nicolo Zaniolo controversy and his side’s Serie A title chances
Roma boss Jose Mourinho was in peak Mourinho form on Saturday, January 28 as he bizarrely congratulated Napoli on winning the Scudetto.
This is despite the fact that the Serie A season is barely halfway through, and Napoli enjoying a 10 point gap at the top.
Napoli are evidently the team to beat in Italy’s top flight this season, having only suffered one defeat under Luciano Spaletti so far this campaign.
Both Milan clubs alongside Lazio and Atalanta are the trailing pack, but despite Roma also being in the mix, Mourinho was quick to concede the title race was over for his side.

'I hope not to be misinterpreted but congratulations to Napoli on the Scudetto. They’ve won it. It's theirs.' Mourinho said in his pre match press conference.
'Because of the inconsistency of Inter and AC Milan, and because you sense there's no other team that can go on a six, seven or eight-game winning run, the title is theirs.
Mourinho’s sentiments will likely anger Neapolitans, who are naturally superstitious and may take the congratulatory message as a slight jinx to their overall campaign.
The Portuguese gaffer also addressed his row with Nicolo Zaniolo and Rick Karsdorp, who was also recently frozen out of the squad.
“Karsdorp is frozen out for as long as he wants to be. It doesn’t take much to change the situation. Someone lied about what happened, giving a bad impression of me and the club that we did not deserve. It’s up to Rick.” Mourinho added as quoted on Football Italia.

Sports Brief also reported on how Mourinho indirectly mocked his former club Tottenham Hotspur by praising Napoli centre-back Kim-Min Jae.
Mourinho has revealed that he wanted to sign the defender while he was Spurs boss but the club could not raise the necessary funds to buy him.
The South Korean was at that time plying his trade with Turkish giants Fenerbahce. Speaking ahead of his side's high-stakes clash against Napoli on January 29th, Mourinho disclosed his admiration of the 26-year-old.
