According to BBC Sport, Fofana joined Chelsea for a reported £8m-10m on a six-year deal until 2029 from Molde.

Speaking on his move to the Premier League, the youngster, who netted 24 goals in 65 appearances for Molde could not hide his delight.

"I'm very happy to sign for the club of my dreams," he said.

Abidjan City wants Fofana's transfer stopped

However, his dream to pull on the famous blue shirt with Chelsea could be scampered, with his former club Abidjan City reportedly keen to have the transfer stopped.

Daily Mail reports that the Ivory Coast-based outfit have already written to FIF, urging the world football governing body to cancel the transfer.

According to the club, Fofana's original transfer to Molde two years ago was not done procedurally.

The row is said to have originated from a conflict between Abidjan City and the forward's mother over whether she had signed a consent form for Fofana as he was a minor at the time.

We, therefore, invite you to intervene with the Chelsea club so that the player’s transfer is suspended until the dispute between the Molde FK club and ourselves is settled," Abidjan City's letter signed by the club president Marco Taddei said in part.

Potter issues defiant message to Chelsea fans

At the same time, Sports Brief reported that Chelsea boss Graham Potter has sent a defiant message to Blues fans who want him sacked.

Potter has been at the helm of affairs at Stamford Bridge back in September 2022, succeeding Thomas Tuchel, who had been sacked at the time.

However, the former Brighton manager has endured a tumultuous start to life with the west Londoners, with the side currently placed 10th in the Premier League standings.
