Mexican fan smashes TV

One distraught fan, who was unable to control his emotions, was captured on camera smashing his television set.

While sporting a Mexico shirt, the yet-to-be-identified man punched his TV until it broke before he reached for his knife and struck it several times.

This was the first time since 1978 Mexico had failed to progress to the next round of the global football showpiece.

Poland, who advanced after finishing ahead of the North Americans, are scheduled to take on reigning champions France in the knockouts.

Mexico boss sacked

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Mexico head coach Martino has lost his job with the national team, following his side's early elimination from the tournament.

The CONCACAF nation kicked off their campaign with a draw against Poland, before Argentina stunned them 2-0 in their second fixture.

The Martino-tutored side went on to pick up four points during the tournament, with their last group fixture ending in a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia.
