However, keen to end their Serie A title drought, Stefano Pioli's charges staged an epic performance against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium to cart home the Italian title.

The Sun reports Giroud was the man of the moment for Milan as he netted a brace to inspire his side to a 3-0 win.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal forward scored Milan's opener in the 17th minute before he doubled the advantage shortly after the half-hour mark.

Ivorian star Franck Kessié made it 3-0 in the 36th minute, leaving the hosts with no chance of springing a comeback.

Milan's win saw them top the charts with 86 points, two ahead of Inter who also won 3-0 in their own fixture against Sampdoria.

According to the BBC, AC Milan are now level with Inter Milan on 19 top-flight crowns.

Inter were hoping to retain the title this term having won it last season under the tutelage of Antonio Conte who is currently in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea enter race to sign Robert Lewandowski

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Chelsea could reportedly make a summer transfer move for Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski.

The Blues are in the market for a prolific striker following Romelu Lukaku's struggles in front of goal after his return to Stamford Bridge.

Lewandowski, who has just a year left on his current deal with Bayern is said to have been identified to boost Tuchel's firepower in attack.
