Zambia midfielder Enock Mwepu has been awarded the goal of the season at Brighton and Hove Albion. Mwepu scored a beauty in their English Premier League game against Liverpool on October 30th last year.
Brighton played out to an entertaining 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield stadium. The Reds had raced into an early 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane and their captain Jordan Henderson.
With the game threatening to blow out of their hands, Mwepu received a pass from Solomon March just outside Liverpool's box. He then lifted the ball over towards Liverpool's goal area and beat a scrambling Alison Becker to half the deficit.
The Seagulls, later on, equalised through Leandro Trossard to claim a vital point. Mwepu’s goal saw him become the second Zambian to score in the Premier League after Patson Daka.
The Zambia star was delighted after the game and took to his social media accounts to celebrate.
Am just a boy from Zambia who had a dream of playing and scoring at Anfield and today the dream has been fulfilled. Glad to get my first Premier League goal and what a performance from the team.
The 24-year-old was signed from RB Salzburg in 2021 and has gone on to become a key member of Graham Potter’s side. He has racked up 20 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and assisting six times.
Mwepu’s goal beat Neal Maupay’s goal against Crystal Palace in Brighton’s end of season awards held on Monday night. Marc Cucurella was voted Brighton’s player of the season after a stunning debut season in the Premier League.
