Manchester United's hopes of signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong have been boosted after the Catalan giants found a replacement for the Dutchman.

Despite Xavi being a huge admirer of De Jong, Barca are believed to have put up the midfielder for sale in a bid to balance their books.

According to Metro UK, Old Trafford is De Jong's likeliest destination, with the Man United looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of Erik ten Hag's arrival.
