Erik Ten Hag has verbally agreed to become the next Manchester United manager, according to stunning latest reports.
Ten Hag, who is expected to leave Ajax at the end of the season, is expected to join the Red Devils on a four-year deal.
According to The Athletic, Ten Hag will take charge of the Old Trafford club immediately after interim boss Ralf Rangnick steps aside.
Rangnick, meanwhile, is expected to take up a consultancy role at the club.
As reported by Sports Brief, Ten Hag was interviewed for the Manchester United job two weeks ago, and the Old Trafford bosses were thoroughly impressed by him.
Nothing was concluded at the time, as it was believed that the 52-year old wanted several assurances from United before taking negotiations to the next step.
Ajax are aware of the current situation, and the Dutch club are willing to engage with Manchester United on the way forward.
At the moment, nothing is finalized, and a written agreement will not be drafted until Ajax play archrivals PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Cup final on April 17.
Other candidates
United were also highly interested in Paris Saint Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Other names that were linked with the Old Trafford job were Spaniard Luis Enrique and Sevilla manager Julen Loptegui.
Despite the other big names in contention, Man United have reportedly opted for Ten Hag, despite the Dutchman’s initial concerns over the club’s recruitment policy.
As it stands, Ten Hag, who has won two league titles in the Netherlands, is set to inherit a squad that is going on for five years since winning a trophy.
