The Reds trailed City by a massive 14 points by the turn of the new year but have since closed the gap to one point.

Liverpool momentarily tops the standings

Liverpool briefly topped the standings for the first time since December on Saturday, April 2, after they sunk Watford in the early kick-off.

A goal apiece on either side of the half from Diogo Jota and Fabinho proved to be the difference as the Merseysiders secured a 2-0 win at home to go top.

However, City regained their place on the summit later in the day after they won their own fixture by a similar scoreline against Burnley.

Klopp sends warning to Guardiola's Man City

Klopp, who went into wild celebration after Liverpool's victory revealed his jubilant mood had nothing to do with Liverpool momentarily going top.

However, the German was quick to send a cautionary note to City, warning that his Liverpool side won't give the reigning English champions an inch in the title race.

"It was nothing to do with being top of the league. I didn't think about that. But we can't give an inch," Daily Mail quoted Klopp saying.
"To keep in the title race we have to win our games. The next game is a big one, we can't hide from that," he added.

Salah in line for new Liverpool deal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Mohamed Salah has reportedly decided to stay at Liverpool despite being linked with a move away this summer.

The development comes at a time the Egyptian was said to have stalled on renewing his deal, plunging his future at Anfield into uncertainty.

His contract situation had seen a number of clubs circle in, with PSG and Barcelona among the top teams believed to have shown interest in his services.
