Nigerian superstar stranded in Russia after Premier League blocks sensational return to English football

• The fullback, who plays for Spartak Moscow in Russia, almost joined Burnley after an emergency transfer window was opened by Fifa to aid players in the affected leagues
• However, the Premier League recently informed Burnley that they would not be able to complete the transfer of Moses for integrity reasons

Burnley have been dealt a blow as their pursuit for talented Nigerian superstar Victor Moses was blocked by the Premier League.

Victor Moses is reportedly eager to leave his current club Spartak Moscow following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last month.

All three parties- Moses, Burnley and Spartak Moscow, were keen to have the 31-year old make a sensational return to the Premier League.

Recently, Fifa and Uefa ruled that players stranded in either Russia or Ukraine’s domestic leagues could depart their respective clubs for ‘greener pastures’ amid the ongoing war.

But Daily Mail reports that Burnley have been told by the Premier League that they cannot sign Moses on a short term deal.

The move by Premier League bosses to thwart the possible transfer of Moses back to the Premier League was reportedly done to protect the ‘sporting integrity’ of the competition.

Victor Moses will thus have to wait until the open of the summer transfer window to be able to attempt a move back to the Premier League.

Italy’s Serie A and the German Bundesliga have also opted against allowing the ‘short-term’ transfers for similar reasons.

Alternatively, Moses could opt to move to the La Liga in Spain, as the league is accepting players from the affected leagues.

The last time he played in the Premier League was in the 2018-19 season, and he eventually moved to Fenerbahce in the 2019-20 campaign.

He left Chelsea permanently for Spartak Moscow last year, and has gone on to make 46 appearances for the Russian giants.

Interestingly, Moses has still been in action for his club despite the ongoing war, and recently took played 45 minutes against Nizhny Novgorod.

The keeper’s wife Andrea has been preparing food for the refugees, and the couple has gone to the lengths of providing clothes and other essentials for the refugees.

The kind gesture from Keylor Navas and his wife is not very surprising, as Andrea has been on the forefront of calling for people to help Ukrainians amid the Russian invasion.
