  • Victor Osimhen is on the radar of Premier League club Arsenal as reports say the Gunners are making efforts to get funds for his transfer
  • With embattled Aubameyang linked with Barcelona, Arsenal are looking to cash in on the Gabonese to fund the transfer of the Nigerian
  • Premier League rivals Newcastle United are also making efforts to sign the 23-year-old who just returned from injury

English Premier League club Arsenal are looking to sign Victor Osimhen before the end of the January transfer window according to reports.

Mirror reported that Mikel Arteta’s side could face competition for the Nigerian international as Newcastle United are also making efforts to sign him.

The Gunners could go head-to-head with their Premier League rivals as Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is also on the radar of the Emirates’ club.

Further reports say the club will also attempt to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, but such a move seems to have hit the rocks because of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Why Arsenal want Osimhen

This is coming as former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to be humiliated after being exiled from the first team as they head to Dubai for their mid-season training following Premier League’s winter break.

It was gathered that Arsenal are hoping to secure some funds by selling their former captain to purchase the transfer of Osimhen from Italian side Napoli.

The north Londoners are keen on the Nigerian international, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia, as Arteta looks to sign a striker this month after missing out on Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic.

Altobelli tells Napoli to replace Osimhen with Vlahovic

Following his recurrent injury problems since joining Italian side Napoli in the summer of 2020, Italian legend Alessandro Altobelli has told the club to look for Victor Osimhen's replacement.

Osimhen’s progress at the Serie A club has been plagued with a number of injuries, as covid-19 has also forced him out of action for several days on two occasions.

Altobelli who won the World Cup in 1982 believes Florentina striker Dusan Vlahovic will do better than Nigeria forward if the Partenopei can land him in Naples.

Watford unveils Samuel Kalu

Sports Brief earlier reported that Watford who are campaigning in the Premier League have officially announced the signing of Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu who is teaming up from Ligue 1 club Bordeaux.

The 24-year-old is now the second Nigerian joining Watford this month following the permanent move for goalkeeper Maduka Okoye who has returned to Sparta Rotterdam on loan.

Before Samuel Kalu made the move to Premier League side Watford, the winger had played 11 League games in the French League netting only one goal and creating one assist.
