The 2023/2024 Premier League season will come to a close in two weeks, with a couple of matters still yet to be decided.

The title is still a three-way battle, while only one team of three will survive the drop to the Championship.

Meanwhile, the league announced its nominees for the end-of-season awards on May 9, with Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Cole Palmer dominating the lists.

On the other hand, many players have been hard done by fitness issues that hindered them from featuring as much as they wanted for their clubs.

Erik ten Hag has been on record multiple times, lamenting the lengthy injury list that Manchester United had to deal with this season.

"You have to deal with that. But everyone understands when you have such key players who are not available, it will have a negative effect on results," he told the club's website.

However, new statistics show the Red Devils have been 'luckier' with injuries as they only sit fourth on the list of clubs whose players have missed the most games due to injuries.

Chelsea most affected by injuries

The first spot goes to Chelsea, who have had 54 different cases of injuries leading to 309 games missed cumulatively.

Mauricio Pochettino has been largely inconsistent in his debut season at Stamford Bridge and can largely blame injuries for his misfortunes.

Christopher Nkunku, who was expected to lead the attack, and captain Reece James have been his key absentees.

Newcastle United are second, with their 38 injuries leading to 258 missed games for Eddie Howe's side. Most notably, Sven Botman picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury last month.

Brentford and Manchester United occupy third and fourth places respectively. The latter had Johnny Evans as their only fit centre-back during their 4-0 mauling away at Crystal Palace.

Of the title contenders, Liverpool have been affected most, with 34 injuries leading to 221 games missed. Diogo Jota and Alisson have been in and out of Jurgen Klopp's squad.

Despite missing Kevin De Bruyne and Haaland for large periods of the season, Manchester City are only 16th on the list, with Pep Guardiola's players only missing 59 games.

EPL Player of the Season nominees

Sports Brief also recently reported that Rodri was a surprise omission from the Premier League Player of the Season nominees list.

The Manchester City midfielder has hardly put a foot wrong all season and his team is yet to lose a game where he was featured so far.

His teammates, Foden and Haaland, were included alongside Palmer and the likes of Ollie Watkins, Virgil Van Dijk, and Alexander Isak.
