Saudi Pro League club, Al-Ittihad, have confirmed that Karim Benzema is back at Real Madrid and have explained why the striker is visiting his former club.

Benzema left Real Madrid after 14 years last summer and joined the influx of stars who followed Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence to move to the Saudi Arabian league.

The Ballon d'Or winner has struggled to adapt in the Middle East, but according to Transfermarkt, he has scored 13 goals and provided eight assists in 29 games in all competitions.

Why Benzema is back at Real Madrid

The 36-year-old is currently in Spain with his former club, Madrid, as confirmed by the Saudi champion, who explained why he is in the Spanish capital.

“Karim Benzema has returned to Real Madrid to undergo medical examinations regarding the injury he suffered this season, in communication between the medical staff of Al-Ittihad and Real Madrid,” the statement reads.

The former Olympique Lyon star was linked with a move away in January, with Los Blancos touted as one of the preferred destinations after struggling in his early weeks in his new home.

The France international has created quite a scene since joining the club. Before his departure, he reportedly had an issue with title-winning manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Per beIN Sports, he walked out of the club's training in February after Argentine manager, Marcelo Gallardo, asked him to train alone following weeks of absence without permission.

Benzema breaks silence amid poor form

Sports Brief previously reported on Benzema breaking silence amid poor form at Al-Ittihad after multiple reports in the media suggested he wanted out of the country.

He denied wanting to leave but admits he needs more help on the pitch as he cannot win games alone and will need every other part of the team to function together on the pitch.
