Sports Brief looks at six wrestlers with African heritage who are competing in the WWE.

Kofi Kingston – Ghana

Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah, who wrestles under the name Kofi Kingston, is a high-flyer who competes on the Raw brand.

A former WWE champion, Kingston has also won numerous Tag Team titles as part of The New Day. He is also known for his entertaining antics during Royal Rumble matches, always using innovative methods to avoid elimination.

Kingston returned to his country in 2019 when he won the WWE title.

Omos – Nigeria

The tallest active wrestler on the WWE roster, Nigeria’s Tolulope Omogbehin wrestles under the name Omos.

Also known as the Nigerian Giant, Omos is currently a free agent and is allowed to compete on any brand he chooses. While he has only won the WWE Tag Team title once in his career, he has fought Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania.

Apollo Crews – Nigeria

Born Sesugh Uhaa, the Nigerian athlete competes on the Raw brand under the name Apollo Crews.

A former Intercontinental and United States champion, Crews was a product of NXT before making his main roster debut. He recently returned to NXT but has been drafted to Raw once again.

Crews was also involved in a Nigerian Drum Fight at Wrestlemania.

Dabba-Kato – Nigeria

Though born in Poland, Babatunde Łukasz Aiyegbusi has a Nigerian father.

He was a dominant force on Raw Underground before serving as an aid to Crew as Commander Azeez. Dabba-Kato has returned to NXT and hopes to jumpstart his career again and win his first title in the promotion.

His Commander Azeez character also made it into the last WWE game.

Edris Enofé – Nigeria

One of NXT’s young stars, Enofé currently teams with Malik Blade on WWE’s third brand.

Born as Inyené Umoh in Nigeria, Enofé has yet to win any gold in the promotion. He is next in line with Blade to challenge Gallus for the NXT Tag Team titles.

Oro Mensah – Ghana

Born Oliver Carter in Zurich, Switzerland, Mensah is proud of his Ghanaian heritage.

While he began his WWE journey as Oliver Carter on NXT, he now wrestles under Oro Mensah on NXT. Mensah also has a tattoo of the African continent on his chest.

Mensah is currently a part of the Meta Four stable alongside Noam Dar, Jakara Jackson, and Lash Legend.
