The Heartbreak Kid was born on the 22nd of July 1965 to US air force pilot Richard and his wife Carol Hickenbottom in Chandler, Arizona, in the United States of America. According to his parents' testimony, Shawn, who grew up idolizing WWE legends like Ric Flair, had a happy and loving childhood. Shawn is the youngest in the family of four, with two elder brothers (Randy and Scott Hickenbottom) and a sister (Shari Hickenbottom).

Career

Michaels' trained under the late Jose Lothario, a Mexican professional wrestler. Before his debut as a pro wrestler, he trained under the ring name Shawn Michaels. 

In 1984, he debuted under the Mid-South Wrestling and Texas All-Star Wrestling promotion companies. At the time, he and his partner, Paul Diamond, won the TAW Tag Team Championship.

He later teamed up with Marty Jannetty while working for Central States Wrestling. The tag team beat the reigning champions, the Batten Twins, for the Central States Tag Team Championship before losing it again to the Twins.

Michaels also worked for the World Class Championship Wrestling in 1985. At age 20, he made his ñational debut under the American Wrestling Association, where he teamed up with Marty Jannetty to win the AWA World Tag Team Championship. 

In 1987, Michaels and Jannetty were signed by the World Wrestling Federation, now World Wrestling Entertainment, under their stage names, The Rockers. However, a bar incident that Michaels later called a misunderstanding in his autobiography led to their termination from WWF two weeks later. In 1988, The Rockers were resigned by WWF.
