Italian volleyball player of Nigerian descent, Julia Ituma has passed away after reportedly falling from her hotel room window.

It was stated the tragic incident happened just hours after her side were defeated in a semi-final fixture of the Champions League.

Ituma was discovered motionless outside the hotel building in Istanbul on April 13.

The impressive volleyball player had featured for her team, Igor Gorgonzola Novara in the second leg of the Champions League fixture against Eczacibasi Dynavit of Turkey.

She scored two points during the encounter.

CNN reports that Ituma was discovered motionless outside the Valley Hotel at around 5.30 am on Thursday. She was pronounced dead shortly after paramedics and emergency responders arrived at the scene.

The Italian embassy in Istanbul is making efforts to assist her family.
