Nigerian MMA pundit, Afolabi Ojabowale, has disclosed the favourites to win the UFC featherweight title showdown between reigning champion Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria.

Volkanovski lost his last fight at UFC 294 to lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, but he is back in the featherweight division to take on Topuria.

Topuria, on the other hand, is one of the top fighters in the featherweight class and won all 14 of his MMA fights.

Sharing his thoughts ahead of the bout, Pundit Ojabowale told Sport Brief why the odds favour the current UFC featherweight champion, Volkanovski.

"In the upcoming bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria, the odds favour Volkanovski, the current UFC featherweight champion, for several reasons," he said.

"Since winning the title in 2019 by beating Max Holloway, Volkanovski has shown his dominance with impressive wins against top fighters like Holloway (twice), Brian Ortega, The Korean Zombie, and Yair Rodriguez.

"Although he had losses in the lightweight division against Islam Makachev, they don't take away from his success in the featherweight class."

Despite tipping Volkanovski as the favourite to win the fight, Ojabowale believes Topuria is a strong challenger due to his records.

"Ilia Topuria is a strong challenger, undefeated and confident, with a record of 14 wins, including four knockouts and eight submissions. However, he hasn't faced the same level of competition as Volkanovski.

"While MMA can be unpredictable, Volkanovski's experience against high-level opponents and his ability to strategize with his team makes him the favourite. His skill in adapting to different styles positions him as a strong contender in the featherweight division, making him likely to win this highly anticipated fight."
