Kamaru Usman is not impressed with rumours being spread around in the media claiming he is nursing an injury before his career-defining fight against Khamzat Chimaev.

It has been widely reported in the media that the 36-year-old former UFC welterweight champion had suffered a knee injury during a training session with Justin Gaethje.

According to MARCA, Usman has now come out to debunk such rumours, blasting the media in a social media post for spreading fake news for 'just clicks'.

The Nigerian-born fighter stepped forward days ago to replace the injured Paulo Costa in the main event of UFC 294 after the Brazilian suffered an injury.

Usman, who has suffered back-to-back losses in his last two fights against Leon Edwards, is hoping to bounce back to winning ways against Chimaev despite being ranked as the underdog heading into the fight, which is the co-main event of UFC 294.

Usman took Chimaev fight for money

Meanwhile, Chimaev has claimed Usman only accepted their UFC 294 fight on short notice 'to make money' as he believes the fighter wanted a big payday, MMA Fighting reports.

To the Swedish professional mixed martial artist, it makes sense the Nigerian-born would take the risk as he believes the rest of the roster sees him as a money fight, as fighting him will increase his profile after stepping up to middleweight.

Usman will meet Chimaev in a middleweight bout this Saturday at UFC 294, providing fans with a highly anticipated showdown under unusual circumstances.

Usman gets UFC title shot again

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Nigerian-born UFC superstars, Israel Adesanya and Usman teasing a fight inside the Octagon sometime in the future.

The Nigerian Nightmare moved up to middleweight for the first time in his career after it was announced he would fight Chimaev in Abu Dhabi this weekend.

Usman was drafted in after Paulo Costa, who was due to fight Chimaev in the UFC 294 co-main event, pulled out of the fight following an elbow injury.
