Strickland claimed the Middleweight title when he beat The Last Stylebender in the main event of UFC 293. Strickland won the fight by unanimous decision after he dominated the former champion over five rounds.

MMA fans took to social media to suggest that The Nigerian Nightmare Kamaru Usman step up to take on Strickland.

Usman is a former Welterweight champion and hasn’t fought since March 18, when he lost to Leon Edwards in a title match, Sherdog reported.

Why Usman should fight Strickland

The biggest reason why some fans want Usman to step up is because he has a history with Strickland.

As noted by talkSPORT, the two met in a three-round Welterweight bout in 2017, which Usman won.

The Nigerian put up a dominant performance during the fight and won by unanimous decision. Usman landed 117 strikes and took down Strickland twice. He also dropped Strickland with an overhand shot during the fight.

The loss was the reason why Strickland bulked up and moved to the Middleweight division.
