Following an injury, he missed out on a blockbuster return for a title grudge match against Adesanya, and he watched as the champion was defeated at Covina native, Low Kick MMA reports.

It remains one of the biggest upsets in UFC history after Strickland defeated the City Kickboxing staple with a unanimous decision win in Sydney, Australia.

Dricus du Plessis was quick to make his intention known that he was ready to take on whoever, including the new champion.

He reiterated that it made no difference as to whom he fought in his first title outing under the UFC banner – remaining confident of striking spoils.

As soon as UFC 293 ended, Dricus du Plessis wrote his official X handle:

“Makes no difference to me, the belt is coming home.”

Just before his knockout victory over Whittaker, Du Plessis had defeated other opponents, including Derek Brunson, and former welterweight title challenger, Darren Till.

The Nigerian-born Kiwi lost his Middleweight belt as Sean Strickland beat him in the main event of UFC 293.

Strickland shocked the world when he defeated The Last Stylebender by unanimous decision to capture his first title. Strickland was awarded four of the five rounds on all of the judges' scorecards.
