Israel Adesanya won’t have to wait too long for a chance to redeem himself and reclaim his Middleweight title.
The Nigerian-born New Zealander lost his Middleweight belt as he was beaten by Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 293.
As noted by Sky Sports, Strickland shocked the world when he defeated The Last Stylebender by unanimous decision to capture his first title, being awarded four of the five rounds on all of the judges' scorecards.
With a new face at the head of the division, there were questions over who would challenge Strickland first.
Speaking after the fight, UFC president Dana White confirmed Adesanya would receive a rematch next, The Mirror reported.
"I think you do the rematch, absolutely. The rematch is interesting; only Israel knows the answers to these questions, and I'm looking forward to hearing it," he said.
Adesanya previously lost his title to Alex Pereira before winning it back in the rematch. The Last Stylebender will, therefore, aim to repeat that feat against Strickland.
White also commented on the Nigerian-born star's performance during the fight, saying the former champion looked like he was in slow motion.
