Du Plessis is 'easier fight'
As noted by BJ Penn, Pereira believes that Adesanya is hoping for a du Plessis victory against Whittaker, because it’s an easier fight for him in the future.
“Let’s speak about if du Plessis wins [against Whittaker]. I think it would be a massacre. Adesanya knows this. He wants to make history. He wants to have an easy fight. For me, it’s du Plessis; he is way easier than Whittaker,” Poatan said.
Whittaker, much like Pereira, also believes that Adesanya is looking for an easier bout. As noted by MMA News, the Australian suggested The Last Stylebender was hoping to avoid a third fight with him.
"He just doesn't want to fight me. I know why. I'm the hardest fight in the division for him," Whittaker said.
“I think I am the biggest threat to him and his reign at the moment. Of course, he wants Du Plessis to win; it’s a much easier fight,” he added.
