Andrade, a former champion of the division, was caught with a right hook to the jaw as she pushed forward, and the referee had no choice but to stop it as Yan landed unanswered shots on the ground. Andrade seemed a bit surprised by the decision at first, as the doctors rushed into the Octagon to see if she was okay.

The Chinese fighter looked to be the sharper of the two as she landed shots while staying out of range of Andrade’s shots. The Brazilian appeared rushed with some of her shots and paid for it when she was dropped.

An all-Chinese affair

Yan has now set herself up for a title fight against fellow Chinese fighter Zhang Weili. Zhang became champion by defeating Andrade, also by first-round technical knockout, in 2019. She lost the title to Rose Namajunas in just her second title defence but recaptured it in 2022 when she defeated the then-champion, Carla Esparza.

Sterling defeats Cejudo

There was no love lost between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo coming into their main event fight at UFC 288.

The two Bantamweights had some bad blood between them and settled it for the title in New Jersey.

The champion defended the belt as he beat Cejudo by split decision, Sports Brief reported.
