Jannik Sinner produced an incredible comeback to win his first grand Salm title, beating Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open final on January 28.
The Italian, in his first major final, needed to recover from two sets down to beat Medvedev in sets of 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3.
The win followed another outstanding performance against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. It was another bitter experience for Medvedev after he also blew away a two-set lead to Rafael Nadal in the 2022 final. The Russian has now lost five of his six major finals.
In the women's final a day earlier, favourite Aryna Sabalenka saw off Zheng Qinwen to successfully defend her title. The Belarusian won the game at Melbourne Park in straight sets of 6-3 6-2.
The 25-year-old became the first woman to defend the Australian title since Victoria Azarenka in 2013.

The 2024 Australian Open saw a 13% increase from the 2023 pool, with a total of $AU 86.5 million distributed among the participants.
Sinner and Sabalenka, as the champions, will each walk away with $AU 3.15 million, while the runners-up, Medvedev and Qinwen, will take $AU 1.725 million.
The losing semi-finalists, Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Dayana Yastremska and Coco Gauff, each got $AU 990,000.
