Hollywood A-list actor, Idris Elba, made a bold statement at the 2023 Wimbledon final by wearing a vibrant remade 1996 Super Eagles kit.

The multi-talented star, known for his roles as an actor, producer, and musician, proudly embraces his African roots and on July 16, he confidently displayed his love for the continent of his ancestors.

In the past, Elba had shown his support for Ghana's Black Stars during the 2022 World Cup, but this time, he chose to express his admiration for Nigeria - their west African neighbours - when he attended the Wimbledon men's finals.

His fashion choice was a true reflection of his ardour for African football and his deep appreciation for the continent's diverse cultures, illuminating the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Idris Elba's stunning outfit

The Beast of No Nation star Elba caused a stir online as he donned a retro 1996 Super Eagles shirt for the Wimbledon final on July 16.

The 50-year-old British actor styled his look with black trousers and designer trainers.

He completed his classy look with a pair of oyster shell Gucci shades - reported to cost a cool £300 - when he attended the star-studded event.

Carlos Alcaraz brought an end to Novak Djokovic's remarkable reign of success, achieving a stunning 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory for his first title at the grass-court Grand Slam and his second major win, according to Al Jazeera.

With this triumphant moment, the Spanish prodigy etched his name in history as the third-youngest Wimbledon champion in the Open Era, a record set in 1968.

Alcaraz placed himself behind tennis legends, Boris Becker (17) and Bjorn Borg (20), as he showed incredible talent, maturity, and potential to defeat the multi-championship winner, Djokovic.

Idris supports Ghana at Mundial

In a previous article, Sports Brief reported on Elba declaring his support for Ghana at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year.

The English-born Hollywood star, who traces his lineage to the West African country, was in Doha to host the draw at the time.
