Novak Djokovic made another bold claim to being the greatest tennis player of all time after reaching the 2023 Wimbledon final and could be on course for more history if he wins.
Djokovic put up a senior man display to dampen a spirited performance from Jannik Sinner, beating the Italian 6-3 6-4 7-6 and setting up the final against Carlos Alcaraz, who beat Daniil Medvedev 6-3 6-3 6-3.
According to Independent, the Serbian put behind a series of troubles from the chair umpire and the Centre Court crowd, who booed him to reach his fifth consecutive final.
Alcaraz left the crowd in awe with his performance but will need to do better than Sinner if he wants to win his first Wimbledon title on his first attempt.
Djokovic on course for records
The 36-year-old defied age and performed like a 26-year-old to reach his 35th Grand Slam final, which according to Wimbledon official Twitter, is a record for a singles final.
According to Sporting News, he has the highest Grand Slam wins in the men's category. He reclaimed the top spot from Rafael Nadal with his victory at the 2023 French Open.
He is tied with retired American Serena Williams on 23 major titles each but one behind Margaret Court on 24 but could match and surpass that this year starting with winning his fifth consecutive Wimbledon.
According to Independent, the current world number 2 has not lost a match on Centre Court since 2013 and has won 34 games in a row at the All England Club ahead of facing the 20-year-old world number 1.
