Nigerian music sensation, David Adedeji Adeleke - popularly known as Davido - experienced a unique culinary adventure during his recent visit to Nairobi over the Easter weekend.
Former Kenyan rugby star, Dennis Ombachi, now renowned for his culinary skills, treated the artist to a traditional meal of ugali and omena.
In a video shared online, Davido visited Ombachi, who has transitioned from rugby to becoming a celebrated chef, at his home.
The ex-Kenya star enthusiastically introduced the singer to the meal, explaining that omena, a small fish, was fresh from Lake Victoria.

After sampling the dish coupled with brown ugali, he gave his approval with a simple 'done', referencing Ombachi's signature phrase when serving his meals.
Davido's visit coincided with his participation in the Raha Festival 2024, a prominent two-day event held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, as reported by Citizen.
Dennis Ombachi's transition to cooking
Ombachi's journey from rugby stardom to culinary fame has been remarkable, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. He gained widespread popularity by sharing videos of his cooking adventures online, attracting a large following and securing endorsements from top manufacturers in Kenya.
He recently disclosed the underlying reason for his retirement from professional rugby in 2021.
Despite being physically capable of continuing his rugby career after recovering from previous injuries, Ombachi decided to retire due to financial considerations. He explained the salaries in rugby were not sustainable for supporting his family, prompting him to explore alternative avenues to secure their future.

Football"The salaries were not sustainable, and I had two kids. We sat down with my partner and gave it marks, and we decided - for [Ombachi] to continue playing rugby - you need to bring a certain amount of money on the table, and that is how you can sustain the family and the kids not just for now, but for the future," he told SemaBox TV.

Sports Brief also reported that Ombachi helped feed Kenyan street families with expensive, delicious food.
Via the Good Kenyan Foundation, he has been mentoring and empowering youth from underprivileged homes.
Ombachi was part of the national squad that competed at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens tourney in Russia.
