There’s never a dull moment in South Africa.

The Boks beat New Zealand by 12 points to 11 to secure their fourth world title, SuperSport.com reported.

While the fans are hailing the performance of the players, the government are also celebrating the achievement of the team. The manner in which they are marking the win has left many confused, as it appears as if the government are taking credit for the success.

The Presidency took to social media to brag about Ramaphosa being the country's leader in 2019 and 2023, the last two times the Boks won the World Cup.

Fans aren’t too impressed with the tweet, believing that the government were insinuating that Ramaphosa led the team to victory.

The President was also criticised for not allowing the team to pose with the trophy before rushing in to be in the team photo when they lifted it.

@TJ_Moletsa:

“What? Don’t disrespect the Springboks like that!!! The honourable president wasn't with them “shooting in the gym” scrum, lineouts nor scrum, not a single day. And it isn’t about him.”

@feinbergd:

“We are the champions! And @CyrilRamaphosa is stealing the limelight from the real heroes. The people! Taking the trophy off Siya. You are a disgrace.”

@GeeTaken:

“Don’t mix cups here… the president has nothing to do with the win.”

@HusseinSul94544:

“Utterly creepy for him to centre himself in the middle of the stage and grab the trophy from the players! 🫣 Man didn’t even wait a few moments. Typical opportunistic politician. I have nothing against him, but he made me cringe with that move!”

@tframe:

“Hang on a second, is the president taking credit here?”

@BitcoinEkasi:

“The funny thing is, if they'd had a shocker of a world cup and dropped out in the pool stages, you wouldn't have taken any responsibility. Because that's the nature of politicians. You take credit when it suits you and shift blame when it doesn't.”

Bok fans want a public holiday

South Africans are celebrating their epic victory over New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup final, as the Springboks became the first team to win the trophy four times.

While they are happy with the win, Springbok supporters are calling on the president to make Monday, October 30 a public holiday.

Ramaphosa previously joked that he would make the following day a public holiday if the Boks won, Sports Brief reported.
