South Africans have an unnatural fear of load shedding.

The nation has become so accustomed to the lights going off that any time it does, South Africans assume Eskom is to blame.

That was the case during the Springbok’s Rugby World Cup celebrations in France.

The Boks were partying in Paris after winning the Webb Ellis Cup for the fourth time and becoming only the second side to defend the trophy.

As noted by The Guardian, the 2019 champions beat New Zealand 12-11 in the final to retain their trophy.

The win sparked mad celebrations both in France and in South Africa, but there was one moment that made it feel as if fans were one with the team.

While the Bok players celebrated on the field, the lights briefly went off in the stadium, leading many to think about load shedding first.

Supporters took to social media to joke about the moment, with many saying that they thought it was load shedding.

@zakareeee:

“The lights went off, and I thought Cyril took load shedding to France. We truly are a traumatised nation.”

@luqmaanrawat72:

“The lights in the stadium went off, and I immediately thought, "They also have load shedding??"

@BrettFishA:

“Loved how after SA got their gold medals, all the power went off in the stadium as if to give a special nod to all the South Africans back home. #Loadshedding #RSAvsNZL #RugbyWorldCup.”

Speaking of load shedding

While South Africans are still celebrating the Boks' win, Eskom has already announced that they will be implementing load shedding from today, October 29.

The current was going through a blissful period without the lights going off while the Boks were in France. Now, less than 24 hours after they won the title, Eskom have already decided to implement the dreaded L word.

Bok fans want a public holiday

South Africans are celebrating their epic victory over New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup final, as the Springboks became the first team to win the trophy four times.

While they are happy with the win, Springbok supporters are calling on the president to make Monday, October 30 a public holiday.

Ramaphosa previously joked that he would make the following day a public holiday if the Boks won, Sports Brief reported.
