Have you ever been in a room where people are talking about something you do not know? Like where people are arguing about who was better between Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G, yet you've never heard of those guys? So you sit there pensively hoping no one asks for your opinion, as you chime in with occasional, 'yes, that's right' along the way?

Well, seems like Kylian Mbappe found himself in a similar situation on September 8 - or at least that's how it seemed.

Mbappe, he who outsmarted and played the great Florentino Perez twice, was among the high-profile attendees during the opening game of the Rugby World Cup at the Stade de France.

Five penalties from Thomas Ramos inspired France to a huge win over three-time champions New Zealand, much to the delight of the home crowd.

The Les Bleus recovered from going down after just 92 seconds to a Mark Telea touchdown from a beautiful Beauden Barrett cross-kick.

In a video shared by Rugby World Cup official channels, Mbappe appeared lost and joined in on a celebration a few microseconds late with a dazed gesture on his face.

How Mbappe reacted to France vs New Zealand

In all fairness, Mbappe looked lost alongside his French national teammates, Ousmane Dembele and Dayot Upamecano. Only Antoine Griezmann seemed to have a clue of what was going on.

That's the price you pay for becoming a revered footballer and joking around with Real Madrid fans - everything you do is scrutinised.

Perhaps the 24-year-old was trying to wrap his head around what a 'try' is or why the players kept huddling together as they pushed each other around and why Ramos kept on getting penalties.

"You mean someone can score five penalties in one game? In a World Cup game? I scored thrice in a final, but no one is counting."

Let's just pray, for his sake, Griezmann didn't ask him what he thought was going on.

France's next game is in five days' time when they play Uruguay. Another win against the South American opposition will put them in good standing to sail through to the next stage.

Five days for Mbappe to revise his rugby notes.
