The Boks were pushed all the way by a rampant Argentinian side and narrowly hung onto a 22-21 victory at Ellis Park Stadium.

As noted by Sky Sports, the Argentinians had much better chances during the game but wasted them.

Fly-half Santiago Carreras kicked three penalties, but missed two others, while Mateo Carreras and Gonzalo Bertranou scored tries for the South American team.

For the Boks, Eben Etzebeth, Damien de Allende, and Manie Libbok crossed the try line, while Libbok also added a penalty and conversion.

The performance wasn’t a typical South African showing, but it did see them clinch second place in the Rugby Championship, finishing behind New Zealand.

Bok fans in full force

As with any Bok game, the fans came out in their numbers to support the team. While it wasn't the performance they were hoping to see, they still had reason to celebrate as the team won.

The Rugby World Cup looms

The Boks will now turn their attention to the World Cup in France, looking to defend their world title.

As noted by SuperSport, South Africa will open their account against Scotland in Marseille. A week later, they will face Romania before taking on Ireland and, finally, Tonga in their last group game.

Updated world rugby rankings

The Boks will head into the tournament as defending champions, but not as the number-one-ranked side in the world. That honour belongs to Ireland.

Sister Bethina becomes Bok anthem

It appears that the Springbok matchday experience will never be complete without 'Sister Bethina' by Mgarimbe blaring out of the stadium speakers.

A video has gone viral on TikTok and Twitter in which a Bok supporter, alongside 60-something thousand supporters at Ellis Park Stadium, were seen singing and dancing along to the cult hit.

The song has remained popular ever since its release in 2005, Sports Brief reported.
