  • The tightest Rugby Championship race in history will reach its climax on what promises to be a dramatic day of rugby tomorrow
  • New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Argentina all have a chance of winning the trophy tomorrow
  • Realistically, however, long-time foes the All Blacks and Springboks are taking the silverware home

Saturday promises to be one of the most dramatic days in the history of Test rugby history.

All four of New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Argentina can win the Rugby Champions. The permutations are enough to cause those partial and neutral headaches that will transfer onto the pitch, where the numbers will be at the front of the minds of the players.

The All Blacks (first, 14 points) will host the Wallabies (third, 10 points) in Auckland at 9.05am, with the Boks (second, 14 points) taking on Los Pumas (fourth, nine points) in Durban starting at 5.05pm.

South African Rugby Magazine broke down how South Africa can win the title:

Australia wins

A rare Wallabies win over New Zealand would make the task simple for the Springboks: beat Argentina and South Africa are champions of the 2022 Rugby Championship.

New Zealand win, but without a bonus point

If New Zealand win, but fail to score three tries more than the Wallabies in Auckland, the Springboks would either need to get a bonus-point victory or, failing that, win by a massive margin as the points difference between the two title contenders is already 13 points.

The Springboks will have to hope in this scenario that Australia can restrict the All Blacks to a modest seven-point win at the most. That would mean South Africa has to beat Argentina by 20 points or more to win the title.

New Zealand win, with a bonus point

If the All Blacks claim a bonus point victory at Eden Park, that would make the Springboks’ task far more difficult. In this scenario, South Africa would have to record a sizeable bonus point victory over Argentina to win the title.

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber stunned by allegations as SARU refutes these claims

Fresh from a crucial Rugby Championship victory over Argentina last night, Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber has addressed a pressing matter.

Following a report that several players had allegedly tested positive for cocaine use, Nienaber was forthright about the distracting nature of the allegations.

The South African Rugby Magazine ran an explosive article stating that Rapport would publish a story today in which drug use was prevalent among some players. It also stated that the South African Rugby Union is seeking a legal interdict to stop the story from being published.
