• This is just a week after it ran a piece that alleged that flyhalf Elton Jantjies was involved in an affair with the team's dietician

Amid the furore of the alleged affair between disgraced flyhalf Elton Jantjies and team dietician Zeenat Simjee, another scandal has been associated with the team.

The South African Rugby Magazine ran an explosive article today stating that Rapport would publish a story tomorrow in which cocaine use was prevalent among some of the players. It also stated that the South African Rugby Union is seeking a legal interdict to stop the story from being published.

Meanwhile, Jantjies has since released a statement about his off-field shenanigans that read:

“I am aware that newspaper articles about my recent behaviour caused a lot of disappointment, distress, and anger to many people, and I apologise unreservedly to everybody I hurt or disappointed, my teammates, the Springbok management team, and SA Rugby. I also want to apologise to the management and squad of my club in Japan, NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes.

“I sadly let myself, my family, and the rugby-loving people of this country down, and I deeply regret my actions. I did not do the Springbok jersey proud. I take full responsibility for my actions, and I am serious about doing everything in my power to change my behaviour.

"I want to restore the confidence those closest to me once had in me and win back the trust of the public. I hope that I can rebuild those relationships that got damaged or broken.”

Elton Jantjies scandal: Wife Iva Ristic speaks out for the first time

Iva Ristic, Elton Jantjies's wife, has broken her silence over the affair he and Springbok dietician Zeenat Simjee were engaged in.

Jantjies and Ristic are the parents of three children, as was reported by Sports Brief.

According to The South African, she was not happy with how his employers, the South African Rugby Union, handled the matter, saying:

“This is very concerning for all the Springbok wives as none of us were aware that this behaviour is actually not breaking any rules and it’s taken so lightly… It’s very disappointing for a World Cup-winning management to allow situations like this to be created inside the team environment

“We are speaking all the time. He is very disappointed. I think it’s also good for him to distance himself from the Bok squad and process everything.”
