- His mother Setta Visagie and aunt Marie Gelant tragically drowned in Hermanus after reportedly being swept off a harbour wall by a rogue wave
- The unfortunate women were found shortly after disappearing by rescue authorities, being declared dead on the scene
The family of former Springbok, Stormers and Western Province flyer Breyton Paulse is in mourning following the drowning of his mother Setta Visagie and aunt Marie Gelant.
Visagie and Gelant were in Hermanus when the tragedy happened.
According to News24, they were swept off a harbour wall by strong waves on Sunday afternoon. Paulse confirmed the news to its sister publication Netwerk24.
He said:

SA Rugby Magazine reported that the National Sea Rescue Institute released a statement which read:
“On arrival on the scene, just off-shore of the Hermanus Old Harbour, two adult females were located and recovered on to the NSRI rescue craft. CPR efforts commenced. They were brought to the NSRI rescue station, where CPR was continued by paramedics.
"Sadly, after all efforts to resuscitate the two females were exhausted, they were declared deceased by paramedics”
Local police have opened an investigation of the incident.
Paulse played 64 Test matches for South Africa between 1999 and 2007, scoring 26 tries. For Western Province, he scored 64 tries in 80 appearances, while dotting down 35 times in 57 Super Rugby appearances for the Stormers.
He is currently a commentator and panellist on SuperSport's rugby programming.

FootballThe rugby fraternity is mourning after the tragic death of former Bulls and Springbok player Pedrie Wannenburg in a car accident.
As reported by Sports Brief, Wannenburg was travelling with his family in Texas, United States when he lost his life in a multi-vehicle crash after a high-speed police chase that had nothing to do with him.
Local police confirmed that a 16-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the incident.
