  • Rassie is currently banned from all rugby activities but that hasn't stopped him from sharing his thoughts on Twitter
  • Erasmus has become a social media star since his ban as he continues to entertain his followers on Twitter
  • The Boks will go into the 2023 Rugby World Cup as defending champions and are focused on retaining the title

Rassie Erasmus has never been shy to speak his mind and his New Year's Day Twitter posts are once again proof of that.

South Africa's rugby director Erasmus is currently serving a two-month ban from all rugby-related activities after he criticised the officials in the South Africa vs British and Irish Lions match in July 2021.

Erasmus was also banned from all 'matchday activities' until September 2022 after he was found guilty by a World Rugby tribunal, Daily Maverick reported.

But while he may be banned from anything rugby related, Twitter couldn't stop the South African Rugby Director from sharing his thoughts on next year's Rugby World Cup, The Citizen confirmed.

Rassie took to Twitter on New Year's Day to share two tweets about his views on next year's tournament, which the Boks go into as defending champions.

@RassieRugby:

"I know!! Don’t tweet after 24h00!! Happy new year to all out there !! Not my words, but I do believe in it “If you want something you’ve never had you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” I hope we smash 2022 together."

Twitter users couldn't help but comment on the post, showing their support for Rassie.

@ProjectsCostruc:

"No matter what the politics, we support you Rassie, forget the agendas and let’s give it all in 2023."

@BraaiFieri:

"Lekker Rassie but by 2023 you must be minister for all sport in SA not just rugby... Happy New Year to you and your family."

Foul-mouthed Englishman praises new Mzansi social media star Rassie Erasmus

In other rugby related news, Sports Brief reported that former Springbok coach and current Director of Rugby at the South African Rugby Union Rassie Erasmus continues to divide rugby observers at home and worldwide.

While drawing scorn and snarls from some quarters, he appears to be winning over others elsewhere for his unapologetic and expressive nature. Erasmus is currently entertaining Mzansi and the world on his Twitter page with odd and hilarious videos while serving a suspension handed to him by World Rugby.

Amidst the sideshows served up by Erasmus, England prop Joe Marler gave him a crude thumbs-up in a recent interview in The Daily Mail, saying that he'd elevate him up to high office if he had the power.
