Team SA's top medalists

South Africa had 11 representatives that won two medals, and seven who earned a treble haul. The best of the three-time medalist was Georgia Els who earned a gold, silver and bronze in the pool.

Swimmers Andrew Ross, Tayla Jonker, and Kate Meyer will also come home with three medals, as will weightlifters Jon Antohein-Phillips, Laryne Jefferies and Anneke Spies, as per TeamSA.

Caitlin de Lange

The Tuks Aquatics School graduate turned 20 just days before taking the blocks in Accra. She set an African record in the 50m freestyle at age 18 and is a joint African record holder in three relay events, as per World Aquatics.

At the 13th African Games, she won gold in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke, as well as silver in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Still just 19, Van Rensburg will take home five medals from the 13th African Games, not including her relay wins. She will add these to the six medals she won at the African Junior Championships.

Her only blip in Accra was a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle. Her four gold medals were earned in the 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle, 400m individual medley, and 1500m freestyle.
