Ghanaian Swimmer Withdraws From African Beach Games After Jellyfish Attack

Ghanaian swimmer, Zaira Akua Forson, had to withdraw halfway through her 5km contest at the African Beach Games in Tunisia after being stung by a jellyfish.

Forson, who was taking part in the open water competition at the time, was immediately attended to by the medical team to ensure she suffered no complications.

The swimmer was one of seven contestants who were reportedly 'attacked' by the sea creature during the competition in the North African country.

In a pair of videos shared on social media, Forson is seen being escorted out of the water and also receiving treatment from the medics.

Meanwhile, Ghana won its first medal at the competition after Teqball stars, Sylvester Oko Nortey and Daniel Fobi, defeated their Eswatini counterparts to win bronze.

Algeria currently leads the competition table with 27 medals - including 13 golds and 6 silvers - while Tunisia and Morocco follow in second and third place respectively.

Ghana's only medal places them 20th on the table, while Nigeria and Senegal are the two west African nations with the most medals in Tunisia so far.

4X100 team sets National Record

Sports Brief also reported on the 4x100m relay team of Ghana setting a new national record at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, in the USA.

The relay quartet, led by 100-metre record-holder, Benjamin Azamati, competed in the final of the championship event in a good time of 38.07 seconds.

In a video from the World Athletics Championships posted on social media, Ghana finished behind Canada, the host nation, Great Britain, and Jamaica.

Ghana close to championship medal

In related news, Ghana could win a WAC medal after the 4x100m relay team reached the final of the championship after finishing an impressive third in the semi-final.

As Sports Brief also reported, a video posted on social media showed the impressive quartet going toe-to-toe with 'big boys' to secure a final berth in Eugene, Oregon.
