Maxine Wahome's eventful week is set to continue after Telco-giant Safaricom awarded her 1 million Kenya shillings.

Wahome made history last weekend when she became the first woman to win a round at the World Rally Championships.

She was in fact the only woman who entered this year's Safari Rally event in Naivasha where she led a 1-2-3 Kenya finish.

Safaricom, who were also sponsoring her at the event, has awarded her for her exploits. Speaking to Capital Business afterwards, the 26-year-old expressed her profound joy.

I am very grateful to my sponsors Safaricom and Kenya Airways for believing in me and offering me amazing support, which enabled me to feature and win in this year’s Safari Rally. I feel proud to be the first female rally driver in the country to win in the WRC3 category. This is indeed a great milestone in my rallying career and I want to encourage more young ladies to join me in this field,

Wahome was navigated by Murage Waigwa in her Ford Fiesta Rally 3 Car. She was part of the four Kenyan drivers that were part of FIA training.'The four drivers include Jeremy Wahome, McRae Kimathi and Hamza Anwar.

They will be taken to Estonia and Greece as part of further training.

Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton salutes Maxine Wahome

Sports Brief had also reported that legendary Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton took to his Instagram stories to congratulate Maxine Wahome after she became the first Kenyan woman to win a World Rally Championship(WRC) support round.

Wahome dazzled through an error-free five stages on Sunday to finish first with 25 minutes and 27 seconds. She led a 1-2-3 Kenyan finish with Jeremy Wahome and McRae Kimathi finishing second and third respectively.

She was racing at the annual WRC event that took place in Kenya from June 23rd to June 26th In Naivasha. She powered her Ford Fiesta Rally 3 car to make history at the multi-billion event.
