No Kenyan will participate in the 800m finals in the women’s category as the country’s only hope Mary Moraa painfully missed out after finishing third in the semis.
Moraa was under a lot of pressure to perform for her country in the semis after all her Kenyan counterparts Eunice Sum and Emily Tuei bowed out in the earlier stages.
In the pulsating 800m semis, Moraa was made to wait to know if she had progressed as one of the fastest losers after clocking a time of 2:00.47.
However, the former 400m specialist bowed out after the likes of USA’s Raevyn Rogers (1:59.28) and Great Britain’s Alexandra Bell (1:58.83) clocked better time than her.
For a brief moment, Moraa could be seen laying on the track after her fate had been sealed in what was clearly a disappointing moment for the athlete.
Switzerland’s Lore Hoffman who finished fourth in semi final two and fifth placed Renele Lamotte finished faster than Kenya’s Moraa.
