Born in Italy and holding dual Kenyan and Italian citizenship, Ongong’a made the decision to represent the African nation on the international stage.

The event is scheduled to take place in Gangwon, South Korea, from January 19 to February 1, 2024.

Under the guidance of esteemed ski coach, Francesco Silverio at Bachmann Sports College in Tarvisio, Italy, Ongong’a honed her skiing skills, achieving notable successes in various competitions.

NOC-K, acting as the National Ski Federation, was also vital in facilitating Ashley's career. The committee reportedly recommended Ongong’a, alongside alpine skier, Issa Laborde undergo a 14-day training camp in South Korea.

Laborde, her Kenyan compatriot, also qualified for the event.

"Their enthusiasm underscores our collective passion for representation, highlighting the significance our national colours hold for them," Mutuku added per Mozzart Sport.

Ongong'a's impressive track record includes multiple victories in cross-country ski events, regional and national championships, and noteworthy participation in international ski competitions.
