Impressive Nigerian weightlifter Odunayo Adekuoroye walked down the aisle with her lover of over six years at the Prophetic Church of Nigeria and Overseas in Akure, Ondo State.

The 28-year-old Olympic athlete who defended her gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham has married her longtime lover, Oladimeji Aremu Iyanda.

Nigerian outlet Nation reports that right after the lovers were joined together at the church, they hosted a guest reception at Christ Event Center, Akure, Ondo State.

The three-time gold medalist disclosed that she had been in a relationship with Oladimeji for about six years, having met him in 2016.

She said:

“This is my happiest moment and I am thankful to God Almighty for his grace. We met at MFM about six years ago, though I was close with one of his friends.

“We got to know each other and connected well ever since. Even though I had so many suitors, I won’t date anyone because of money. He has a genuine love for me. He is caring and has all the good qualities a lady will wish for in a man. He didn’t disturb my career but has been supportive since we started dating.

“People believe I’m going to marry a billionaire but what will be the essence if you marry such a person and ended up not having a happy home?”
