Player's biography

Connor was born on 13 January 1997 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. His mother, Kelly, played a year of recreational ice hockey as a child and dived into skiing later on, while his dad, Brain, was a high school ice hockey player. For McDavid, he began playing at three, practising on rollerblades in the family basement.

In his junior career, he mostly played with children much older than him. Nevertheless, he became the third player after John Tavares and Aaron Ekblad to be allowed to be in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) one year earlier than the permissible limit.

Connor finished his three-year career with the Erie Otters with five individual OHL awards and was named the most decorated player in league history. He played impeccably well for the team and later became the first overall selection by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

This was his breakthrough in the NHL, and on 3 July 2015, he signed a three-year, entry-level contract worth $11.3 million, including upto $3.775 million annually in bonus incentives. He made his debut on 9 October 2015, scoring his first goal five days later in his third NHL game in a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars. Connor finished his rookie season with 16 goals and 32 assists, fourth in rookie scoring and was named to the NHL All-rookie team.

McDavid has been one of the franchise's best players and has won multiple awards. Together with Leon Draisaitl, they have been named the second-best duo in NHL history after Gretzky and Korri. They have a combined five scoring titles, three MVPs and four Ted Lindsay awards.

International career

His international career began in the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, where he led team Ontario and was named to the tournament's All-star team. He went ahead to play for Canada's Under-18 and then joined the junior team in 2014.

Two years later, the athlete made his debut in the senior team in the IIHF World Championship. He was later named to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing but did not participate due to Covid-19 restrictions by the NHL. He was upset with the league's decision saying,

"It's always been a dream of mine to play at the Olympics since I was a little kid. So to have that kind of squashed as we were getting close was disappointing."

He has, however, won 3 gold medals for the Canadian team.
