The Denver Nuggets lifted their first NBA title last season and are favourites to win it again this season. The Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Boston Celtics will be looking to challenge Nikola Jokic's team.

On the financial front, the average NBA team is now worth more than $3.8 billion, thanks to lucrative media deals. Sports Brief looks at the most valuable NBA franchises, from the lowest to highest, per Forbes.

The NBA's current TV deals with ESPN and Turner Sports bring $2.66 billion every season through 2024/25. International rights bring $500 million every year.

Most valuable NBA teams

7. Dallas Mavericks - $4.5bil

The Dallas Mavericks have been up and down in the NBA in the last few years. However, with the drafting of Luka Doncic, they have become one of the best franchises in the Western Conference. Their worth has increased by 36% compared to last year.

6. Chicago Bulls - $4.6bil

On the court, the Bulls have struggled since the departure of Michael Jordan. They have not won an NBA title since 1998, and things look even more bleak right now. Their valuation increased 12% from last season.

5. Los Angeles Clippers - $4.65bil

The Clippers are perennial underachievers despite their talented roster. Injuries to top players Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have hindered their continuity. However, they are still one of the best franchises in the NBA. Last year, they were valued at $3.9bil.

4. Boston Celtics - $4.7bil

The Celtics are one of the biggest teams in the NBA, even without on-court success. They last won the NBA title in 2008 and have experienced near misses in the last few seasons. Moreover, their 2008 title is the only one they've won since 1986. Their valuation in 2022 was $4bil.

3. Los Angeles Lakers - $6.4bil

The Lakers, along with the Celtics, are NBA giants. They last won a championship in 2020, but things are looking promising, especially with LeBron James in their team. The 17-time NBA champions were valued at $5.9bil last year.

2. New York Knicks - $6.6bil

The Knicks haven't won the championship in 50 years, per the Washington Post, but have dominated this list for many years because they are in the biggest media market. They don't look like winning a title anytime soon, but their financial power is solid. Last season, they were valued at $6.1bil.

1. Golden State Warriors - $7.7bil

The Warriors have won four NBA titles since 2015 and are one of the most-watched NBA teams in the world. Their franchise’s value rose from $450 million to over $7 billion in just 13 years. Their core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are still playing and are aiming for ring number five. They were valued at $7bil last year.

NBA champions Denver Nuggets are ranked 15th with a valuation of $3.37bil. The Memphis Grizzlies are 30th, the Minnesota Timberwolves 29th, the New Orleans Pelicans 28th, the Indiana Pacers 27th, and the Orlando Magic 26th.
