LeBron James had a funny reaction when he learned that he is the oldest player in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers veteran is entering his 21st season in the NBA and turns 39 in December.

The four-time NBA champion sent fans into a frenzy when he hinted at retirement after the Lakers' elimination from the 2023 playoffs.

In a video posted on X by the NBA, James is approached by media staff during Lakers practice and is informed that he is the oldest player in the NBA.

He jokingly screams, then runs away. The video then transitions to James dunking the basketball, making some fans question if the former Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat star is 38.

Miami Heat legend Udonis Haslem was the oldest player in the NBA but retired at the end of last season.

James incredible longevity

Last season, James averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists, but injury forced him to miss 27 games.

There has been a noticeable decline in James' game since he joined the Lakers, and injuries have been frequent. In his first 15 years in the NBA, he missed just 71 games but has missed 111 in his last five seasons, per ESPN.

The Lakers had a great 2022/23 season, where they reached the Western Conference finals despite a dreadful start to the season.

Moreover, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer during the Lakers game vs. Oklahoma City Thunder. The record had stood since 1984.

James on his record

Sports Brief earlier reported on James naming a few players who could surpass his scoring record.

The Lakers star said that Kevin Durant is the most likely player to outdo him because of his versatility on the court. Durant is currently 15th on the all-time scoring list and may climb up before he retires.

He also added that the likes of Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Irving have a chance if they stay healthy.
