Kobe played his entire 20-year NBA career with the Lakers, where he became one of the best sports stars ever. His resume is flawless. He won five titles, two Finals MVPs, one regular season MVP, and earned 18 All-Star and 15 All-NBA selections.

He retired as the No. 4 on the NBA's all-time leading scorers list. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020, per USA Today.

Lakers announce Kobe's statue

Vanessa and the Lakers made the announcement. A Kobe statue has been brought up in NBA conversations since his death.

"On behalf of the Lakers, my daughters and me, I am so honored that, right in the center of Los Angeles, in front of the place known as the house that Kobe built, we are going to unveil his statue so that his legacy can be celebrated forever.”

The statement also revealed that Kobe took part in the "initial planning" of the statue.

"Kobe Bryant participated in the initial planning of the anticipated statue to come at Star Plaza. This is the first in a series of physical tributes to honor his legacy. Bryant will be the seventh Laker to be commemorated with a statue."

The statue was created by sculptor Julie Rotblatt Amrany of the Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany.

Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jerry West and Chick Hearn are former Lakers that have statues.

Bryant's murals continue to inspire

On January 26, the basketball world mourned the third anniversary of Bryant's untimely demise. He died with his daughter, Gianna, and seven others in a helicopter crash in 2020.

Since his tragic death, the basketball icon has been honoured worldwide. Murals of Bryant and Gianna were painted on streets and courts to eternalize them both.

Even in death, his influence still endures. From LA to the Philippines, artists worldwide have painted murals of Bryant and Gianna to honour them, as Sports Brief reported.
