The No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama, made his NBA Summer League debut for the San Antonio Spurs against the Charlotte Hornets.
Apart from having a rough game offensively, he was also dunked on hard by Hornets' Kai Jones. Many fans were quick to troll the towering French big man.
In front of a sellout crowd at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, the 19-year-old came up against the Charlotte Hornets and No. 2 pick Brandon Miller. The Spurs won 76-68, but it was his performance that caught the eye of many fans.
In 27 minutes of action, the French phenom finished with nine points, eight rebounds, three assists, and five blocks. Still, he went 2-for-13 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line but missed his first five-point attempts. One attempt from deep fell with 2:50 remaining in the regulation.
His performance attracted some premature criticism from NBA fans.
Jones dunks on Wembanyama
Wembanyama had a moment many NBA players have, getting dunked on. Halfway through the third period, Wembanyama was trying to defend a pick-and-roll action involving Hornets guard Nick Smith Jr. and center Kai Jones.
As he rotated back to attempt to block the alley-oop, he was met by Jones, who was already in flight. The third-year NBA pro threw down a thunderous dunk over the 7-foot-4 Spurs youngster.
It was a tough spot to be in for the Spurs rookie, but he deserves credit for trying to stop the Hornets from scoring. Wemby was recently caught up in an incident involving his security guard and pop star Britney Spears.

Sports Brief earlier broke down Wembanyama's potential salary for the 2023/24 season. He is expected to earn as much as $12.2 million in his first season.
Based on salary cap projections ($136 million), the young French phenom's on-court earnings could be as much as $55.2 million over the next four years.
Wembanyama could make way more from his off-court deals. He is a Nike athlete and could add a few endorsement deals ahead of his rookie season.
