- The Dallas Mavericks superstar broke the news through Instagram on Friday
- The 24-year-old is coming off his best season in the NBA
Dallas Mavericks proposed to his long-time girlfriend, Anamaria Goltes, in Slovenia on Friday. The NBA star revealed the news to his 8 million Instagram followers.
The day had a special meaning. It was July 7th, and Doncic wears No. 77 for the Mavericks. Friday’s date, July 7, is the couple’s anniversary.
Doncic's post on Instagram now has over 1 million likes and over 10,000 comments. He received congratulatory messages from NBA stars the likes of LeBron James, Jalen Brunson, Boban Marjanovic, Spencer Dinwiddie, Miles Bridges, JJ Reddick, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, and Trae Young.
Doncic has been enjoying the offseason and sent NBA Twitter into a meltdown after sharing videos and photos of him working out. The 24-year-old has always been criticized for being out of shape despite having his best season, statistically in 2022/23.
He averaged 32.4 points per game in the NBA last season, but his Mavericks missed the postseason.
Who is Anamaria Goltes?
According to Marca, Goltes has been with the former Real Madrid star since 2016. She also hails from Slovenia, just like Doncic.
The 25-year-old's Instagram profile bio reads 'Fashion and lifestyle content creator.'
She reportedly was a dancer when she was young but now focuses on being a content creator and influencer.
Doncic wants to see changes in Dallas
Sports Brief earlier reported on Doncic saying his team needs to make serious changes after a frustrating 2022/24 season.
The 2011 NBA champions finished the season 11th in the West with a 38-44 record, their first losing record since Doncic's rookie season (2017/18). Their blockbuster trade, which brought Kyrie Irving to Dallas, didn't bear fruit, as the team collapsed in the last two months of the season.
The good news is they re-signed Irving and added some much-needed defensive depth. Irving and Doncic went 5-11 when they played together for the Mavs.
