Spurs fans were ecstatic despite knowing their team would select the towering Frenchman. French football superstar Kylian Mbappe lauded his compatriot shortly after learning he was the No. 1 pick.
Wembanyama has been called a "generational talent," meaning he has extremely high expectations to succeed and bring Gregg Popovich's team back from the wilderness. The Spurs have had No. 1 picks before, and they ended up in the Hall of Fame.
