Height is probably the most important quality teams look at when giving a player a contract. Projected No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama has shown just how potent a 7-foot-4 player can be when he has the skills of a guard.

The league has seen tall players in its 70-plus years. Although the game has drastically changed, there will always be a place for the big man.

Nowadays, the big man is required to have elite defensive skills and high IQ on both sides of the floor to make him a valuable asset during a playoff run.

Houston Rockets center Boban Marjanovic is currently the tallest player in the NBA at 7-foot-4. But who are the tallest players in NBA history? Sports Brief takes a look.'

6. Victor Wembanyama - 7-foot-4, 8-foot wingspan, a shoe size of 20.5

The French phenom has not played a single NBA game and is already one of the most anticipated sports stars in basketball. The 19-year-old is expected to be selected as the No. 1 pick by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft. Expectations are huge as he starts his NBA career. The NBA has seen few players with his combination of size, dribbling, and shooting. He is the most exciting prospect since LeBron James and has a chance to become one of the best in the league.

Rik Smits, Ralph Sampson, and Marjanovic are other NBA players who are 7'4".

5. Mark Eaton - 7-foot-4

Mark Eaton made his NBA debut in 1982 and played his 11-year NBA career with the Utah Jazz. He became a defensive juggernaut over the course of the decade, which saw him win Defensive Player of the Year twice (1985, 1989). He was also selected to five All-Defensive teams (1985-1989). He is the blocks-per-game leader (3.5) in NBA history. The Jazz legend played at least 80 games in nine of his 11 seasons. He sadly passed away in 2022 at the age of 64.

4. Chuck Nevitt - 7-foot-5

Nevitt entered the league in 1982 as the 63rd overall pick in the draft. He is the tallest player to win an NBA championship. His only NBA title came with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1985. He played for five teams in his nine NBA seasons and appeared in only 155 games.

3. Yao Ming - 7-foot-6

Ming was already a star by the time he got to the NBA in 2002. The Houston Rockets selected him with the No. 1 pick. He instantly made a mark in the league, averaging 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks. He had 8 All-Star appearances and was All-NBA five times. He averaged 19.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in his eight seasons in the NBA, which was hampered by injuries. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. The Chinese legend retired in 2011, per ESPN.

2. Shawn Bradley - 7-foot-6

Bradley entered the league with high expectations since he was the No. 2 overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft. The Philadelphia 76ers selected him, and in his first five seasons, he averaged 3.4 blocks per game. He played 14 seasons in the NBA for the 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and the New Jersey Nets. He never reached his potential and retired in 2005. He was immobilized after a terrible biking accident in 2021.

1. Manute Bol and Gheorghe Muresan - 7-foot-7

Bol had an incredible journey to the NBA. He joined the league in 1985 as the 31st pick, selected by the then-Washington Bullets. He led the league in blocks (5.0) in his rookie season and is second in all-time blocks per game (3.3). He played 12 seasons in the NBA but sadly died in 2010 at 47, per ESPN. His son Bol Bol currently plays in the NBA for the Orlando Magic.

Muresan was drafted by the Washington Bullets with the 30th overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft. He played only 307 NBA games over six seasons for the Bullets and Nets. He also won the Most Improved Player award in the 1995/96 season after averaging 14.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game.

Muresan and Bol are the tallest players in NBA history.

Wembanyama on France-Spurs connection

Sports Brief earlier reported on Wembanyama explaining the special connection France shares with the San Antonio Spurs.

Boris Diaw and Tony Parker won titles with the Spurs, with Parker claiming four titles and Finals MVP honours in 2007.

Wembanyama confirmed there was a special relation and said most, if not all, of France wanted the Spurs to pick first.
