The Air Jordans Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan wore during the 1997 NBA Finals have been auctioned for $1.38 million.
Jordan finished with 38 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in more than 44 minutes of that game as the Bulls beat the Jazz in Utah.
Jordan gave his signed shoes to Jazz ball boy, Preston Truman, who'd brought him applesauce before games. Truman kept the shoes for 15 years and sold them for $104,675 to Grey Flannel Auctions. Its price appreciated by over 1200%.
However, it is not the most for a pair of sneakers. The Air Jordan XIII Breds Jordan wore during the second half of Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $2.238 million with Sotheby's in April, per ESPN. A pair of Air Jordan Air Ships the Bulls legend wore in his rookie season sold for $1.472 in 20201.
What is the 'Flu Game'?
Before that game against the Jazz, play-by-play announcer Marv Albert declared that Jordan was suffering from "flu-like symptoms." In 2013, Jordan's former personal trainer, Tim Grover, said the six-time NBA champion was actually dealing with food poisoning, not the flu, per Sporting News.
During the ninth episode of ESPN's "The Last Dance," Jordan himself confirmed that food poisoning was the real issue.
Magic on Jordan, Thomas feud
Sports Brief earlier reported on LA Lakers icon Magic Johnson urging Jordan and Isiah Thomas, the respective Bulls and Pistons greats to end their iconic feud.
The two NBA legends have not seen eye to eye for close to four decades, and Johnson feels they should let the past be the past.
"I'm definitely gonna try man, because they should be past it. They're my boys. So, I guess I'm gonna have to be the one to bring them together," he said about mediating between the greats.
