- Nikola Jokic is arguably the best player in the NBA and was also announced as Finals MVP
- After the Denver Nuggets won their first title, he shook the hand of each Miami Heat player
- Jokic was exceptional throughout the playoffs and the finals, guiding his team to NBA glory
The Denver Nuggets beat the Miami Heat 94-89 in a hard-fought Game 5 to win their first NBA title.
Instead of erupting into celebrations immediately after the buzzer sounded, Nikola Jokic embraced every Miami Heat player in what was a lovely gesture of a competitor.
As his Nuggets teammates went to celebrate the title win, Jokic went to shake the hand of every Miami Heat player.
The Heat deserved that gesture since they just had a historic playoff run. They were the 8th seed in the playoffs and had to go through the Play-In Tournament to reach there.
They eliminated two favorites, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics, in one of the greatest runs in NBA playoff history.
Jokic's historic NBA playoff run
In five games against Erik Spoelstra's team, the Serbian big man averaged 30.2 points, 14 rebounds, and 7.2 assists. In Game 5, he had 28 points, 16 rebounds, and four assists.
He deservedly won the Finals MVP, which saw him join an exclusive list of players with at least two MVPs and one Finals MVP.
Those players are Tim Duncan, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Moses Malone, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, LeBron James, Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, per Bleacher Report.
Jokic broke a few records in this playoff run. The 28-year-old became the first player to lead in total points (600), rebounds (269), and assists (190) in a single postseason, per USA Today.

Caleb Martin: How Heat guard went from undrafted to NBA playoff hero
NBASports Brief earlier reported on a picture of a 5-year-old Jokic wearing a retro Nuggets sweatshirt in Serbia going viral after Denver won the title.
According to his agent, Miško Ražnatović, the chances of someone in Serbia wearing Nuggets merchandise in the early 2000s was very low.
“Chances of that same kid growing up to play basketball and achieve his career high, win two MVP titles and sign a historic agreement with the same club whose sweatshirt he wore at age five, were zero," Ražnatović added.
